iDigBio's User Engagement for Public Participation in Digitization Working Group and the SERNEC TCN are organizing an iDig'dBio@ Transcription Blitz at both Florida State University's Robert K. Godfrey Herbarium and the Valdosta State University Herbarium on Saturday, March 28.  The goal is to engage volunteers in the transcription of 3000 plant specimen labels using Zooniverse's Notes from Nature. Those who participate for the full time at FSU will receive a reusable lunch bag with the event logo on it; the participation gift at Valdosta has yet to be determined. To keep things interesting, there will be a different game each hour—habitat bingo, transcription time traveler, botanical explorer, and morphology bingo—with small prizes for winners and a native plant raffle at the end. There will also be a live feed connecting the two locations. Participants need not have any previous experience with plant specimens, but typing skills will be useful. Snacks and drinks will be provided during a mid-morning outdoor break.  If interested in participating at FSU, please register at this Doodle poll; if interested in participating at Valdosta, please register at this Doodle poll.  Registration is important so that we can send you last-minute logistical information (e.g., regarding parking, which should not be a problem that weekend).  The event is made possible by the generous contributors to the FSU Herbarium's crowdfunding campaign last December (http://spark.fsu.edu/Projects/121/Blazing-a-New-Trail-for-Sustainability-with-Citizen-Science).  The event is organized by Austin Mast (amast@bio.fsu.edu), Libby Ellwood (eellwood@bio.fsu.edu), and Richard Carter (rcarter@valdosta.edu).
